Nebulizer

Nebulizer

A nebulizer, a gadget used in directing medication to patients through the liquid vapor to the airways, is conventionally used in treating cystic fibrosis, asthma, and some other respiratory illnesses. Nebulizers usually use concentrated liquid from medicine that are usually steroids. This is the major reason that nebulizers are used through inhaling the vapor concentration of the medicine and not swallowed Bronchodilators are usually used, specifically Albuterol.

Ordinarily, the vaporized medicine breathed in via tube like mouthpiece like an inhaler. This is one advantage of the nebulizers because it is portable and the vaporized medicine mixes with the surrounding air, the lessens the unlikely odor of the vapor. In the absence the inhaling apparatus, the patient may also use the usual rubber face mask (which is more appropriate to use by young children or the elderly).

After using nebulizers, the patients are advised to wash his mouth to prevent the steroid from causing yeast infection in the mouth.

Nebulizers are also popularly termed as a breathing machine. It alters liquid asthma medicine to vapor so that the effect will quickly be breathed into the lungs, some patients prefer to use nebulizer medication at home especially when patients are infants and young children.

What are contained in a home nebulizer kit?

A home nebulizer should contain the following: air compressor, nebilizer cup, mask or mouthpiece, medication (should be contained, either in vials or bottles and the medications are prescribed by the physicians) and compressor tubing.

How to use a home nebulizer? Here is a step by step guide to make the home nebulizer be efficiently used:

1. Put the air compressor on a stable facade to hold up its weight. Plug the cord into an electrical outlet.
2. Hands should be thoroughly washed and cleaned before the treatment starts.
3. Make exact measuring of the medicine and place it into the nebulizer cup.
4. Assemble the nebulizer cup and mask on mouthpiece.
5. Sure that the aerosol compressor and the nebulizer cup are connected to the tubing.
6. To check whether the compressor is efficiently working, turn it on. A vapor should come out of the tube and to the mouthpiece/mask.
7. Sit comfortably while you are using the nebulizer for medication. For young children, who are using face mask, be sure to check that the mask is placed correctly or your child’s face; however, if you are using a mouthpiece, pace it between the upper and lower teeth and seal the piece with lips.
8. Taking gradual deep breathes while undergoing the medication is effective so that the medication will reach far into the lungs. Hold your breath when you inhale for about 3 seconds so that the medication can stay into the airways.
9. Ten minutes is the average duration of this process. When the nebulizer makes a popping noise, it is an indication that only a small amount of medication is left. If in case, the patient feels a little uncomfortably dizzy, he may rest for a while and do simple breathing exercise then he may continue the treatment. On the otherhand, if dizziness persist, contact and consult your physician about it.
